Previously, on Tomorrow Waits For
No One:
Marcus and Cole retrieved the jewels, hidden in a secret compartment in
the parlor of the Wilhelm Estate. Frank emerged, demanding
the
jewels. He tied up Marcus and Cole and prepared to leave.
Vittorio surprised Frank, shooting him in the chest.
As
he was about to shoot Marcus and Cole, Mrs. Williams knocked him
unconscious with a vase. Vittorio was arrested and Frank was
rushed to the ER for emergency surgery.
Rhonda received a report
on Gail from her PI and was intrigued to discover that Gail is adopted.
Hoping to find something she could use against Gail, Rhonda
instructed the PI to learn more about the circumstances of her adoption.
Marcus
and Cole visited Mrs. Williams. Marcus explained the last few months and asked
for forgiveness. She welcomed him back into her home.
Exhausted, Marcus slept at Cole's.
Cole visited Frank in
the hospital to read him his rights, officially arresting him.
Frank stewed as Cole obviously enjoyed the procedure.

Sept. 27
SMPD:
Chief Evans's Office
DA Benton and another man wait.
"Det. Washington, I'd like you to meet Det. Dillon MacCaskill from the
Twin Creeks Police Department," Chief Evans says.
Cole draws a deep breath as he
extends his hand. The two men shake.
Det. MacCaskill hands Cole extradition papers. "I'm here to
inform you that Marcus Lazano has been indicted for the theft of the
Van der Griff jewels.
"I was afraid of that," Cole
sighs.
"Our office will be busy enough dealing with Vito Cuzzupe," Philip
informs him. "Mr. Lazano will be returning with immediately
to
Virginia Det. MacCaskill to face trial."
Cole exhales.
"Alright. I understand. Let me go get him."
SMPD:
H.R.
Cole goes to Marcus's office
to personally break the news.
"Marcus..." he says somberly,
eliciting a reaction from Jenny.
"What now?" she asks dubiously.
"Cole, is everything okay?"
Marcus inquires.
"It's time," Cole advises him.
Marcus acquiesces, and agrees
to leave.
"Time? Time for
what?" Jenny questions.
"Um, Jenny, would you mind letting Rhonda know that I have to leave
again and it may take longer than a couple of weeks this time."
Jenny throws her hands up,
speechless as Cole and Marcus depart.
SMPD:
Chief Evans's Office
Marcus and Cole return to face the music. Det. MacCaskill
handcuffs Marcus as he begins to read him his rights.
"Oh, come on!" Cole
protests. "Is this really necessary?"
"I'm sure this is standard operating procedure for the SMPD as well as
the TCPD," MacCaskill reminds him.
"It's okay, Cole," Marcus
assures him.
"I'll get you the best lawyer
available to defend you," Cole promises.
"Thank you," replies Marcus.
Detective MacCaskill and
Marcus leave to drive to the airport.
SMPD:
Detectives Squad Room
Cole returns to his desk and immediately calls his old paramour,
criminal defense attorney, Caillan Bailey.
"Caillan, this is Cole. Are you free to take on a new
client? Would you be willing to fly with me to Virginia to
represent him?"
After Cole tells him Marcus's
incredible story, Caillan agrees.
SMPD:
H.R.
Rhonda sits at her desk with her phone to her ear, a report in front of
her, and a stunned look on her face. “Rico, can this be
true?!?”
she asks her investigator. Rhonda listens intently as the man
explains.
"Everything's in there,
lady," a voice is heard through the phone. "Gail's adoptive
mother Amanda Renwick paid Gail's biological mother Mary Rhoades to
leave town after the woman killed her husband."
"And this Amanda woman? She was stupid enough to pay Gail's
real
mother with a check?" asks Rhonda, incredulously.
"No, she paid her cash," he declares. "But both women entered
the
bank together when Amanda made a large withdrawal. The police
reviewed the surveillance camera footage and even questioned Mrs.
Renwick during the investigation into Mary Rhoades's
disappearance. I saw the video myself. I'm certain
it was
Mrs. Renwick, in disguise."
"How did she explain herself
to the police?" wonders Rhonda.
"She flat-out denied it was
her."
"And you're telling me that Amanda Renwick was never charged with
aiding and abetting a murder suspect?" Rhonda demands. "She
never
became a suspect herself?"
"Nope.
She claimed the police were harassing her and her husband Charles filed
a suit against the police. Charles Renwick is the CFO for
Benton
Industries," Rico explains.
"Oh, I know full well who Mr.
Renwick is."
"Well then, you know how much money he has. My take is, he
used
his money and influence to convince the police chief to drop his wife
as a suspect. Then he exerted political pressure on county
officials to expedite the adoption process."
"What do you know," Rhonda whispers. "You've done excellent
work,
Rico. I'll be in touch if I need you."
After hanging up, Rhonda wonders how to use this information.
"Now that I'm armed, I'll have to plan just how and when to drop this
bombshell."
SMPD:
Chief Evans's Office
Cole goes back to Chief Evans' office. "Chief, since the
investigation in this case is complete, I've decided I'd like to take
you up on your offer to schedule some more vacation time."
"You've done good work on this case and I know it's taken a lot out of
you." Chief Evans concurs. "Take as much time as
you have
available."
"Thanks, Chief."
Cole hurries out of the chief's office.
On a
Twin Creeks-Bound Plane
"Seems like old times, huh,"
Det. MacCaskill tells Marcus once seated on the plane.
"Yeah. Seems like only yesterday..." replies
Marcus. "I
didn't kill my mother or Joe, you know," Marcus states.
"Sure, kid," retorts Dillon.
The two men sit silently for
the rest of the trip.

On the next installment of Tomorrow
Waits For No One:
Cole to Marcus:
"Marcus, I want you to meet Caillan Bailey, your new lawyer."
Philip to Rhonda: "We still have to swing by and pick up
Gail. She said she'd left me a message, but I never got it.".
Marcus
to Caillan: "My father’s presumed dead. And his cousin
Vittorio
will be prosecuted for attempted murder, among other things.
Actually, I guess Ronni is now my closest relative."
Caillan to Marcus: "Ronni?"
Marcus to Caillan: "Veronica. My stepmother."
Gail to Philip: "Oh, I’m so excited that Ann and Roger are tying the
knot. I guess we’re soon to become cousins-in-law."
Rhonda to Philip and Gail: "May we get on with it,
please?"
